The Murphey Candler Neighborhood Association is seeking input on the future of the “open space field” located on the east side of Murphey Candler Park near the intersection of Candler Lake East and Nancy Creek Way inside the Horseshoe Loop Road.
2016 Design – Park Bond Master Plan
The City of Brookhaven’s Master Plan for the Park Bond, presented to the public in February 2016, included an “open space field” in its conceptual drawings.
2019 Revised Design Plan
In May 2019, the City released a revised design plan, which was titled “community green” and included two stages and amphitheaters.
2020 Revisions
In 2020, the City created a revised design plan, which was obtained by the MCNA via an Open Records Request. The April 2020 plans include a “community green/amphitheater” in this space, with a stage, concrete pavement, amphitheater retaining walls, plaza seating area, and the removal of 14 trees (loblolly pines, sweetgum, dogwood, cherry).
On December 23, 2020 the City removed 8 of 14 trees from the open space field. The remaining 6 trees were removed on Tuesday, January 5th. However, the City has not yet approved plans or issued permits for the community green/amphitheater project. There may still be an opportunity to provide public comment on this project. Please complete the short survey below to provide your input on this site and project designs.
